Nice plants. Really must get some of mine posted, been off line for a month due to a fault in the connection and I now have a new comp. which I have to get used to. For some reason it won't let me upload photos onto fb or on the forums. I've tried everything, even messed up the comp. and had to do a system restore on it. Tomorrow I am going back to the shop and ask them to sort it out.

Hi all, I put this post in the General Succullents thread because I didn't know about the Haworthia thread.

An Haworthia haageana which doesn't seem to know what time of the year it is. This flower started to appear just a couple of weeks ago and quickly climbed to its present height at 28cm. No water has been given to my Haworthia's for a couple of months so why this one is flowering I just don't know.

Haworthias cannot be categorically pinned into any specifics when it come to flowering time, time of growth, or when to water.

I have some odd plant flowering almost every month of the year, and some I am convinced are summer growers, like H. venosa tessalata.

Your plant looks fat for not being watered for several months,
I water mine almost once a week all year long, Summer and Winter, but of course I live in place that has similar weather to South Africa.

Most of the Haworthias grow and flower in the Fall and Spring during mild weather.

How about "turtle shell" for a name for the 3rd unnamed hybrid picture in first photo post.
Just a thought :)

There are some nice hybrids out here in this thread.

May I aks where you obtained your plants? Haworthia seeds are a bit rare to get, and I have not even seen seeds of hybrid Haworthia on offer (which I find strange).

I get mine at various nurseries (Including Craig's) and at local cactus shows, and I've also imported some from overseas growers. The problem with hybrid seeds is you never know exactly what you'll get, since the traits are just thrown together at random and the majority of the seedlings can turn out very unremarkable. I've produced a few hybrids and only a few turn out really interesting.

Great stuff Salt Creep

I just started selling pure species Haworthia seed,

but not hybrid seed for 3 reasons

1) I plant all the hybrid seed
2) it would be hard to label or classify
3) if I sell that one seed that produces the best hybrid ever!!! I wouldn't ever get to grow it and use it to hybridize more.

Awesome plants, Craig and Denise!
I have only a few Haworthias and I'm never sure when to water them and when to keep them dry. Are all Haworthias winter growers? What is the proper watering schedule?
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
