Dozens of Agave parryi in bloom in the wilds of central Arizona. It was really quite a show! More at Showtime at Parryi Mesa

Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Re: Showtime!
Nice to see! I like the inflorescence on that species more than a lot of Agaves. Our closest local native equivalent, Hesperoyucca whipplei (which acts more like an Agave than a Yucca) is doing its thing right now around LA.
I'm now selling plants on Ebay. Check it out! Kyle's Plants

I'm with you on A. parryi, there are very few Agaves that can hold a candle to their blooms. And yup, H. whipplei also puts on a very nice show!
