Spider eggs?
We have an Agave with this weird thing growing on the bottom of the soil. My best guess is spiders, which wouldn't harm the plant, but also makes it unsaleable because for some silly reason people tend to not like to buy things that produce baby spiders unexpectedly.

Are they eggs or the fruiting bodies of some tiny (presumably harmless) fungus?
Can't they just be rubbed or washed off?

Spider eggs generally are laid in a mass with a protective cover of webbing. Fungus is a good possibility.

Good to know. I think I'm going to cut the bottom off and plant it in with our mother stock.Thanks for the info!
