I have a cockspur prickly pear (O. pusilla) that finally flowered last summer after 4 years of nothing. Eight pretty yellow blooms came and went and formed fruit.
The majority of the fruits turned yellow, shriveled up and fell away. Three of them ripened and fell off and, though far from what I'd call delicious behaved like prickly pear 'tunas' normally do.
Two fruit are, however, still stuck on the cactus! There is about 1/2" of green at their bases and they are in no way loose or about to let go.
Now this year's two blooms have come and gone with the vintage pears still in their quasi-ripe stateless state.
Is this normal and should I be concerned?
