My first succulents
My first succulents
Hi, i'm trying to grow some succulents (it is succulent?). Since the seed was so litle i couldnt mange to plant the seed one by one. How old/big should they be before i could repot/move them and is it possible to split them so i can pot them one by one? They are 2 months old.
Re: My first succulents
I believe you have some mesembs on yr hands I'm being lithops, yes they are succulents. They look great i wouldn't. Move them for atleast a year when they show their true leaves, but I'm sure Ian the master of mesembs on here will tell u exactly what you can and should do, but by the looks of things your a lot better then most people have tried/Gotton with these types of plants!
Re: My first succulents
Leave them. At least a year, maybe two or three. They won't grow fast and they won't be crowded any time soon.

See its like you write "ian the master of mesembs" And it summons his great-ness! Listen to him he's the genius!
Re: My first succulents
he he, ok, the plan was to make some nice little pots with stones and some of this little things for christmas gifts this year, but then maybe next year.iann wrote:Leave them. At least a year, maybe two or three. They won't grow fast and they won't be crowded any time soon.
Re: My first succulents
Yeah, Lithops grow really slowly. Gifts for xmas 2015 will probably have to be bought separately. You can often find pots with a bunch of 2-3 year-olds that are a good size for potting separately. Those, or maybe a little older, could be persuaded to flower but perhaps not to wait until December to do it

Nice looking seedlings - I'd say you're doing very well for your first time.

Re: My first succulents
They are now 4 months old, do they look ok? They are under LED 16/8, but could i move them to my window so they could get some real sun?
Re: My first succulents
They'd probably do better in the sun but you'd have to be careful to give them good ventilation so they don't overheat. The colour indicates that they're getting a fairly good amount of light, but at 4 months old I'd be looking for a little more "action". Time for them to be starting on their first true leaves and I don't see much sign of it. Are they L. optica 'Rubra'?

Re: My first succulents
Yes, two have very obvious leaves coming through. Several others aren't far behind.daffe wrote:ok, is two of them on this picture starting to make there first leaves?
