Etiolated succulent

Post by haroldo »

I left my succulents outdoors for the summer and they prospered (or should I say, they grew better than they did while they were indoors at my office).
I live in northern NJ and brought them back to my office for the winter.
Not great light and my office has tinted windows.
I put them under a grow light (8" CFL bulb).
I noticed they are etiolated. I would have assumed the grow light would have prevented this
What should I do?
Thanks!

Try reducing their water to once a month for the succulents and for the cacti I would leave them dry all winter. You may just want to give them sips of water when you do water. Reducing their water slows their growth.

Thanks!
But leaving it under a grow light is a good idea, no?

Of course it is. But nothing beats the sun. Thats why holding back their water keeps them from etiolating so much. They are still going to grow just at a slower rate.
