I would expect the caudex to be less prominent, though.Harriet wrote:I am glad to know I may get a caudex on the cuttings. I had read elsewhere that it would not happen.

Re: Adenium Pruning
Can they be healthy and long lived with their roots all twisted up and potentially strangling each other? It looks really cool and interesting. Wonder how old those cuttings are.
My cactus must be gods. They demand blood sacrifice.
Re: Adenium Pruning
Yes, they can be both healthy and long lived. Amazing roots/caudex is just what they do! It also makes the plants interesting even when they aren't in bloom.
It’s not the fall that kills you; it’s the sudden stop at the end.

Re: Adenium Pruning
bizarre. thank you for info. If they were a tree, roots like that would eventually kill it.
I may be more tempted next time i see a little one on the sale table at my favorite nursery.

I planted the cutting; we'll see how that goes. Thanks for the illustration, Hendry.
However, my original plant doesn't look very good where I snipped it- is this normal?

Scary isn't it? I think it will heal over and branch out from the edges of the healed area.

Re: Adenium Pruning
Keep that part away from water...
For the cutting, do not water it for about a week or more...Good luck

Here's a pic of mine that was cut similarly a few months ago, with two new branches beside growing beside the cut.
