Haworthia ID's

Post by Tony »

Hello all,
I went to the Home improvment store last week for "duct tape".
And somehow these haworthias fell in my cart, all with tag's, :) but of coarse I dont trust them. :x
All have been put in 6"pots.
What do you guys think of these names?

1 Haworthia emelyae

These are both tagged Hawortia turgida!
2 / 3

4 Haworthia mirabilis beukmanii

5 "White ghost" H. retusa acuminata variegata, I agree with this one.

6 Haworthia batesiana

7 Tag says Haworthia coarctata, Im guessing it's H. limifolia var. glaucophylla?

Thanks!

Hi Tony,

Home Depot is ok sometimes with the names, but not much with Haworthias. I am actually surprised they had names, all the ones I see say "Haworthia species'.

I would say
1. mutica
2 venosa var tessellata, usually just called tessellata
3. cymbiformis var obesa or coopera var truncata, latter is more blue green
4. coarctata or coarcata hybrid
5. lable good, tho Bayer now puts acuminata as H magnifica var acuminata
6. nybrid known as H. cuspidata
7. might be limifolia var. ubomboensis , not all that familiar with this plant. I haven't heard the glaucophylla name, and don't see it in bayer's book.

Here is perhaps the best site, this guy collects mainly haworthias, usually with data.

Haworthias exist with a great deal of variety. I have seen Haworthias that look VERY different given the same exact names. Then there are variants and crossbreeds ... I'm not sure ... although I DO attempt it ... that positive identification of MANY Haworthias is even possible.

BTW ... what city do you live in, and WHAT home improvement store did you visit ... that you had SEVEN Haworthias fall into your cart? If you are within 500 miles of me, I might have to visit this store! I think I might take the chance that some of these Haworthias would fall into MY basket! :D
