Unknown Bromeliad/Tillandsia

Hi! Thinking this is a type of Tillandsia. Seems like the pups are "greener" because they are getting more "air", then the mother, which probably should not be planted in such a heavy soil. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi wkearns, it is hard to say anything, the picture size does not allow one to see details. These plants do not look like south american Tillandsia in general, and could be anything, even Ananas.
