I'm not sure even about the genus...any help on ID appreciated, thanks!
Re: Huernia ID please
This looks like a Huernia Schneideriana. http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... neideriana

Re: Huernia ID please
Hi Rei thanks for replying.
I have three Huernias:
H. keniensis
H. schneideriana
and this plant you suggested to be schneideriana.
This plant is different from my schneideriana, so, at first, I did'nt agreed to your ID.
BUT, searching for schneideriana images I found pictures very similar to that plant, for example here:
http://www.succulentguide.com/cactus/?g ... neideriana
The link you sent, in fact, shows lots of different flowers and stems, all under "schneideriana" name.
Now I'm not sure about any of the IDs...
I found this name: H. aspera, which looks very close to my plant:
http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... nia_aspera
Does anyone has any opinion about that?
Thanks

Re: Huernia ID please
Taxonomy of these seems quite uncertain. However, the flowers of this one do have the dark centers characteristic of schneideriana.

Re: Huernia ID please
I think so, there are plants close to each of them on this page - http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... neideriana
The next closest one is H. macrocarpa, but schneideriana looks like a better fit to me.

yes you're right, Spence, thanks!
Re: Huernia ID please
There is also a lot of hybridisation within the genus, it's very risky to assign a species name to a plant of uncertain origin.

good to know, JFabiao. So I can give up IDing the Huernias, just as I did with the Haworthias !jfabiao wrote:There is also a lot of hybridisation within the genus, it's very risky to assign a species name to a plant of uncertain origin.

Some species are quite distinctive, others not so much...

There is a hybrid of Huernia schneideriana that is H.s. var. "Elvis". Like yours, it has points along the edges. And a bit darker red than the more common "Red Dragon".
