ID for succulents find during bike tour

Post by Aiko »

I came across two succulent (like) plants on one of my long bike tours.

This one I came across a cycling path next to the Waal river, probably growing on clayish soil:

I took some cuttings and grow them in a tray outside next to my greenhouse. It is doing fine and has grown a lot since.

And this one I found at the quay of the Rozenburg / Maassluis ferry crossing the Rotterdam harbour, where it was growing between the rocks right next to the water (I am sure at high water levels it might be submerged):

I also took some cuttings of these, and seems to be doing fine too. I do think this might be two species, as plants on the left are a bit more compact looking than the ones on the right. One has a cute little yellow flower, which I apparently have not put well on this picture...

Are these maybe a Sedum of some sort? Anyone with an idea?

Sedum album and Sedum acre is my guess.

The second plant must be a Salicornia - possibly Salicornia europaea.

These sounds good to me too.
S. acre is very salt tolerant. Maybe not to the extent of being submerged daily though?

It will not be submerged daily, just a few times a year when the water levels are high, most of the time in winter. It is the end of a river after all, and contains sweet water, just a bit brackish maybe.
