Hello! I'm 19 and from the north coast of Scotland, I absolutely adore succulents, and plants in general! I don't know what I'm doing most of the time, but at least I'm having fun!

The first is a named aloe or haworthia hybrid that has been id'd before earlier here (forgot the name) - the second is Aloe variegata

How do you identify if it needs more light or not? Thank you for letting me know. Does it need direct sunlight or will a bright windowsill do? Sorry for all the questions!

The aloe is quite tall and long, which is why it looks like it needs more light. Aloes don't need very strong sun. Mine sits on a south facing window, where there is full sun, but sits behind another plant for shade in the afternoon.

I'd go with that. Or possibly a related hybrid.

The older leaves on the Aloe variegata are more like the proper proportions, the two younger leaves visible are very elongated - xarbak is correct, they don't need strong direct sun but do need good light. Mine sits on an east-facing porch where it gets some early morning sun, seems to be about ideal. With good light they're not only stockier, but more colorful, with a red tint at the base of the leaves. A bright windowsill would be fine, hot afternoon sun might be too much - though as far north as Scotland is, probably not a problem.
