Please identify Aloe flowering plant

Post by saubleclipper »

While hiking in Italy on the isle of Capri last month (April 2015), I came across this flowering plant which I first thought was a cactus but have been informed it is an Aloe. It was about 15 inches tall. I think it may be an Aloe Africana but that is just a guess on my part. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind it is. Thank you, Marvin D.

There are SO many Aloe, it is hard to say. This one looks as if it could've been planted by someone, rather than growing in the wild, so it could be any number of hybrids (if not a species). If you want to peruse hundreds of photos, go to http://www.aloestudies.org/species.html

Thanks for the information, it was right beside a path near an estate, so it probably was just as you suggest. Thanks again,.... Marvin
