Succulent gift

Post by rjweightman »

Hi there,
first time poster on the forum so hello to everyone.
I recently was given a gift of a succulent and neither of us knew what it was called.
I planted it in a pot (it was droopy so it was horizontal) but now its growing in a very curly fashion.

Firstly- does anyone know this type of plant?
Second- what is the best way to grow it (does it need a trellis or replanting etc? I'm not very familiar with succulents in general!)

Thanks
Rory

It looks like Senecio articulatus, or maybe a close relative, that has been given too little light. This causes it to grow tall, thin and spindly. If you can gradually accustom it to more light over a couple of weeks, subsequent growth should be more compact.

Agreed. You could cut it back to induce branching (easily propagated by cuttings, you could turn it into several plants), or you could let it trail. Care instructions - http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... rticulatus

There are pictures of a trailing specimen here - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57973/
