Re: Echinomastus johnsonii care
Let's not forget the nice population up on the edges of Death Valley too! (my apologies if I missed mention of that abaove, kind of in a hurry today). Good advice above, also can help to leave the base of the plant elevated a bit from the soil or surrounded by rocks. I grow johnsonii in very poor, m...

Bruno, I love all of your plants! You do such a fantastic job growing the real difficult, challenging ones and keeping them looking like they do in habitat. Always a pleasure seeing your photos!

Baja May 2014
Hello all, just back from another trip to Baja, my 8th covering the entire peninsula in the past 3 years. This time I finally got the boat ride out to Isla Magdalena and camped out there for a night, with some time to hike the volcanic ridge line the first day and hike over to Bahia Santa Maria day ...

That looks like yavapaiensis indeed. Marc is still in the middle of accurately mapping this one. It's a tricky business, mapping all the claret cups of AZ.

Re: What water do you use to water your cacti?
I use tap water acidified slightly with plain vinegar, about 1.5 teaspoons (7-8 milliliters) of vinegar per 5 gallons of water gets it down to about pH 5.5 or so. Use acidified water right away for full effect. I only bother with this when it has been a long time between rains (often, here!). Rain i...

Re: peterb's 2014
The main flowering season is winding down as it does every year here near May. Soon a good heat wave will come along and knock a lot of stuff into dormancy for the summer. A few new things.

Re: Echinocereus arizonicus
These would be arizonicus nigrihorridispinus, judging from the extra spines, generally smaller stems and longer flower tube. Love these, great photos!
