That looks right to me. It's a pretty variable species.

Re: TimN 2012 Photo Topic

I got a couple of small seedlings from EBay from a guy in eastern Europe. They are doing well, even after one was uprooted by a bird and hid it for a week. My strobiliformis are doing gangbusters, if I could just pollinate one to get some seeds. Dang, how do I miss these crazy bargains At AZ cactus ...

Re: Dehydrated Astrophytum asterias on eBay

At this time of year an Astro in southern California should be growing/flowering vigorously, in my opinion.

Those flower stalks take a lot of people new to succulents by surprise!

Re: help needed with my cactus' extreme lean

Different species, Stenocereus eruca, but this shows the concept for potting a decumbent plant.

The grower (not me) made the pot by epoxying sheet acrylic. Just to be clear, this is not my plant. The photo is from the Intercity show & sale last August (?)

Re: Need some help with this one

Is it grafted? If so, you can cut them off and root them. The toughest part is getting a grip on it. The spines are very sharp, very stiff and surprisingly long. I've rooted a couple of cuttings.

Maybe not, I can't tell from the pictures.

The one on top is an inflorescence or flower stalk. Don't know about the bottom one.

Re: whats this ?

My experience with Epithelantha is that they do weird things occasionally. No rhyme or reason. Some times it makes a plant with more visual interest. I've never had one of these anomalies kill the plant, though.

Re: Moon cactus rotting?

I'm pretty sure the Gymnocalycium part is dead. The stock might be savable.

If you want to try to salvage the top, get some anti-fungal/anti-bacterial spray at your local plant shop and spray it thoroughly.

Re: help needed with my cactus' extreme lean

I don't know exactly what this is, but the adventitious roots make me thing that this species is decumbent normally. As to straightening a leaning plant when you repot: In my experience if they want to they're going to lean. I currently have an Astrophytum myriostigma that's been leaning for several...
