Re: Talk about odds!
Odds were once again "against" us with the arrival of little Josephine yesterday, makes 6 out of 6 girls now! Both mum and bub doing well even though it had to go down to a fully put under C-section. Dragged a "proper" camera along this time instead of just a smartphone a...

Re: Black Backgrounds
Lots of way's to skin that cat indeed. I used the easiest possible method in the past, just an old black t-shirt tacked onto a cork board for backdrop. Just place it behind the plant and in shade and adjust your camera settings to get the background black. Nowadays though having picked up a stack of...

Re: Myrtillocactus geometrizans
Unfortunately not, 7 years in the ground and not asmuch as a single flower on it.

Re: New bed finally underway.
Could well be, this one flowered a few weeks back. Nice show of about 10 or 12 yellow flowers.
Didn't get any shots of them open but here's the buds.

Re: Myrtillocactus geometrizans
No overall ban but some species are "banned" either for weed reasons or for Alkaloid reasons, varies from state to state though. Started my work of removing it the other week and by gosh it's got an internal skeleton like no other plant I've come across! Cutting tips or partway down a bran...

Re: Myrtillocactus geometrizans
I find from my inground one that even a thin stem can support quite a bit of weight, main stem wouldn't be much more than 4 inches in diameter at ground level yet it supports what can be seen in this photo. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj576/Snowfella/IMG_0653_zpsirr4xddt.jpg Trimmed it quite...

Re: Could I please get help with IDing this Mammillaria
What kind of a pot did it come in? If it was in a blue/green plastic pot it would be a hamilton's plant and very likely be what vlani suggests. Though I've found over the years that hamilton plants can't be guaranteed pure.

Re: New bed finally underway.
Long time since my last update, having just given the old cactii bed a well overdue weeding I figured it might just be time to throw up some shots. Most of the plants I originally put in are still alive and kicking, looking forward to some flowers. The whole insanity http://i1268.photobucket.com/alb...

Re: Talk about odds!
If all 10 fingers and toes are accounted for and the rest is a ok I don't mind being outnumbered! Though future boyfriends might not like a grumpy ex-army sarge poppy in the mix, thinking of printing up a "10 rules for dating my granddaughter" t-shirt for when I meet the first one

Righty, this is for those more clued on than me in statistics to figure out. Welcomed granddaughter #5 into the world earlier on today. :alien: Here's #1, #4 and #5 having a first cuddle. http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj576/Snowfella/13592156_1014682541913523_7165785047304103379_n_zps3vsklccv....

Re: Snowfella's cactus trials
It's indeed been a while since I updated anything  Garden is still going, had some first flowers on my Trich's this spring but it's right now in a bad case of neglect and needs some serious weeding out I'm afraid. Life got in the way and I let it go way to far. Really have to knuckle down and ...

Re: Zygo season
I just adopted 5 new Zygo's from the cleanup of the in-law's place, some clearly young plants but also 1 massive old one. Think all bar one is run of the mill hybrids, but the odd one out has me intrigued...never seen spines on the older stems on a zygo before! Going to be interesting to see what co...

Re: Pachanoi (San Pedro cactus) question re: outside temp
I've got mine growing in the ground, getting quite a bit of rainfall during winters and haven't had any problems yet. Regularly heads close to freezing with frost here.

Re: New bed finally underway.
Bit of a revive here. Weed situation is once again out of control and I haven't had the time to rectify it  Spring is booming with buds everywhere, everything from Fero's, Echinopsis, Mamm's and this Trich is having a go right now. First buds, on a 9 foot plant  http://i1268.photobucket...
