Re: Epithelantha micromeris

Congrats. I received some seed from Steve also but have not yet sown. From my experience with these, last year, when you get the bag open be careful not to let them dry out to long. They are so very small and they tend to dry out really quick. As in one day they look fine and the next they are shriv...

Re: Keeping track of your collection?

I'm racking my head with this for ower a year. I'm still thinking about takeing a MS Access course or maybe do it in MS One Note maybe. I now have it in MS Word, but I'm not too satisfied with it. It is too awkward to find things or to add new pics to it. I don't know yet how would that work on Acc...

Re: fire ants in the soil

I live in fire ant central. You can't go more then 20 feet without finding these pain in a** critters. I have had luck with just nuking the soil with Imidicloprid. They won't come back, and if they do it will be a long time. Or you could also hit the top of the soil with a good granular fire ant kil...

Re: Dipping my toe in the grafting pond (Update 4-22-13)

No worries Tony. And it was my fault for missing you said "rooting" on the original post. Those pups look very "natural". I was expecting them to be a little bit off shape, but you would never know those were not just grown from seed. Nice work! And thanks Paul and Gem. I will do...

Re: Dipping my toe in the grafting pond

Update time I guess. Things are going great so far. IMO. The Raushii are just ridiculous fast. Two neat things. One is the CAPxAS, the graft was horrid bad at the start but it has continued to enlarge the graft area. I thought it was going to just die a few days ago, and all off a sudden the growth ...

Re: My first greenhouse!

Congrats Dan :)

I actually had just asked Darryl about the scorching on Copiapos... Get a fan on them. They scorch easy. More from the heat then the sun. From what I have been told

Re: Stock length vs. life span

Ty Ty. 5 years is quite a lot longer then I thought the stock would live. Nice to know.

Will make sure to go for a little taller, then my previous grafts, to catch a couple more sets of leaves.

Cheers

Stock length vs. life span

I hope this has not been discussed to death already. Just a simple question, does the length of the stock have any effect on its life span.

Mainly talking Pereskiopsis here. 2" will live shorter then a 4" etc. etc. ?

Re: Why isn't my lighting working?

Probably not relevant but worth mentioning: steel is an awful conductor of electricity, about a tenth as good as copper. Stainless steel is about 50 times worse than copper. I bet Sharpy could measure the resistance of your length of steel wire  Dang right I could  Thanks for the info on ...

Re: Why isn't my lighting working?

Just a little interjection here. I have a long background in electronics, and the length of the wire will not make a difference. The measurable resistance between a piece of wire, of that small gauge, 2cm long or 2 meters long is almost unmeasurable. If it had anything to do with frequencies then th...

Re: My seed growing list 2013 (Big picture update 13th April

nice. I need to get some more seeds to do this winter. It's been fun growing from seed. *sigh* I already have too many plants.. oh well I will figure where to put them all when that time comes ;) Just wait till it comes time to individually pot them  I was amazed at how long it took me to do l...
