That would be a nightmare!
If anyone is wondering how I made the tags, they are just aluminum from a soda can that I cut into strips and numbered with an embossing label maker I found in a box.

Re: A few to ID
Unless I am misunderstanding the origin of some of your cacti... In the future please do not collect plants from the wild.
You also may want to look into less organic based soils for your cacti, especially the natives.

Re: Some new grafts
I decided to make up some numbered tags for my 7 grafted Geohintonia seedlings so that I can keep track of them in the future. It was easy to remember which grafts are which when I was starting out but now it is getting a little out of hand. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7300/8745903513_d37fe3f364.j...

Re: Panachoi rotting in soil
All moisture generally stimulates in unrooted cacti is rotting. A lack of sunlight and adequate dehydration to need water is usually the trigger for rooting in my experience. Good luck with saving your cactus.coldcactusmontreal wrote:Well I thought that it was the moist soil that stimulated root growth?

Re: Too hot for it
This thread makes me wish I had taken photos of my poor Astrophytum asterias that cooked during that last heatwave. It was getting a bit more sun than I thought and when I went out and saw the whole plant turn yellow in one afternoon I knew something was off... Turned out the entire cactus's core ha...

Re: Some Cacti Glow under Black Light
Better to get one of those LED UV flashlights for finding scorpions, they sell 'em at the gas stations around here! $10 or so, then snoop around at night...the purple light is enough to see by. Be very careful of rattlesnakes when using UV light as your only light source. Their patterning does not ...
