The plant was growing in an uncrowded flower bed in partial shade. This cutting is about 10% of the whole plant.

All of these flower photos are great. Some of them just seem to pop out at you. Personally I need to work on lighting and flower position. Super job everyone! 8)

Thanks for the ID Rosemarie. One other question, when the Echiveria turned red from too much sun I put it in partial shade (50% cloth), I did this in Aug.09 and it seems to be taking awhile to green up. Still too much sun?

Yes Rosemarie, this is one plant. The single stem is attached to the crested stem. I have an Aeoneum sunburst 'crested' that grows the same way.

daiv---by saying "not exactly typical" , do you mean that E. scheeri normally clumps? I noticed on Dave's Garden photos, that most of E.scheeri grow in clumps. I guess it's just a matter of time to see if mine will clump..maybe it'll remain a solo columnar plant.

Thanks for the IDs. Both appear to be right on. I've had the E. scheeri for 3 years and this is the first bloom. I was away for 5 days, came back, went into the greenhouse and there it was. A nice surprise for sure.
Thanks again Jim 8)

For all you veggie growers....Yesterday I listened to an organic grower speak and one of the best tips he gave was tying a few plastic shopping bags in your garden to help keep the birds away...The irratic snapping of the bags, when there is a breeze, will scare them off. 8)
