Re: Reliable seed source?

Wow...since July...I had high hopes since the last time I ordered from them (in 2016), it took just a month. I guess I'll wait a bit more, but may end up taking the same route that you did. I've ordered from from most of the European sellers, including from the CR, and although some are slower (2 mo...

Re: Reliable seed source?

This is a curiosity question. I know in this day and age everything is done by website and e-mails. Which allows people to put you on ignore. Me, being a 63 yr old male find that after a few weeks of being ignored I pick up the phone a call. Is that not the way of doing things now? I find I get ans...

Re: Reliable seed source?

It seems that might relatively short order-to-reception time was a fluke. I placed a small order on November 20, 2019, and I've still yet to hear anything (and as others have noted, they don't respond to order inquiries in the interim). Anyone with a recent reception of seeds from gerardo.cz to give...

Re: Melocactus azureus

The specifics can differ for different types of plants, but anything over 85F inhibits significant components of CAM. There is no Magic Cut-off applicable across the board, but here we find the nighttime 70s to be our best bet to start watering again. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Melocactus azureus

70s should be fine. When it reaches the 70s regularly at night here in the valley, most growers start watering regularly again.

Re: Melocactus azureus

Minime8484, when you say "sensitive to our mid-Summer afternoon sun" what do you mean? Have you had some die or turn burnt or deformed from direct sun? How hot does it get for you? What I mean is that other than the Devil Himself, not many plants can handle to direct UV here in the Valley...

Re: Melocactus azureus

I long ago came to the conclusion that "difficult plants" are those that don't grow for you, whereas others can grow them like weeds and struggle with plants you find easy. This^. I grow several species of Melocactus in ground here in the Valley of the Sun; for me, they are much more sens...

Was just there this past weekend - they've done a great job; the place is looking great and being well-cared for.

Re: Mesa selling plants now

How long are they taking to ship plants nowadays?
Been waiting now for over a week without a peep (except of course a debit to my bank account...that always seems to be quick!).

Re: Cleistocactus smaragdiflorus?

Definitely not C. brookeae; however, Lucy_V's suggestions are both good. I personally lean towards C. smaragdiflorus as C. tupizensis centrals tend to be a bit more brownish and not as golden, but certainly within potential variability.
Can't wait to see the flowers!
