Re: Majcka 2014

Wow, Maja -- I think you've entered into the realm of "European Cactus Giant"! =D> As I said over a year ago -- "You've come a long way, Baby" (Old sexist American commercial slogan  )

Re: New Seedling IDs

The 2 Steno's can't stay outside; the leei is recommended as a "trough" plant, which allows much more moisture protection outdoors in Winter; vivip just needs "well-drained" soil for Winter.

Re: New Seedling IDs

Samee - 2 is C. peruvianus (Dan I don't do "Fairy Castles"); Steno. crispatus is "diagonal" to E. leei.

Re: Lithops sp.

Congrats, Ivan! Germination from 1 planting of 3 different MG varieties of salicola have yielded 1 small plant; a 2nd planting of a different species (not going to look up) yielded 2 tiny blobs! Haven't figured out the problem, although temps have been a little cooler that many of my cactus germinat...

I'm guesssing we're being told we've properly mourned our losses -- time to get on with "new" miracles! Andy, isn't it great to see "pass along's" doing well!

Re: Majcka 2014

Great job, Maja! =D> Any or all of the cacti grown from seed? I have some 8 month old G. gibbosum seedlings doing very well, although Gymno's in general have done poorly. Finally getting a stretch of warm, dry weather & of course, everything is growing like crazy & needs to be tended to now!...

Re: T's seeds 2014

Great pots of seedlings, Tony! =D> Of course my next thought was you must either have an (empty) 22 room mansion or a 1/2 acre GH to accomodate all the repotting! - cuz I've only got about a dozen "tupperware" tubs of seedlings out on porch that are needing their own pots (including Maja's...

Welcome, Tom! That's a fantastic looking Ariocarpus! I'm totally jealous because I'm still struggling with both bought plants & growing from seeds ](*,) My youngest son just celebrated his 1st anniversary working in Big H(ouston) & he loves it! There are several fellow Texans (from all over ...

Re: Hi everybody. I am from Portugal

Welcome, Carlos - Your country is very well suited for cacti -- indoors & out! This is a Great Forum & you will probably be getting into seeds very soon. By any chance do you also grow Haworthia? I have several Flickr friends from Portugal that are total maniacs with them. I have some, but t...

Re: My love isn't producing the offsets she should?

Alley - Looks like your "Love" is some kind of Gymnocalycium & I don't see a problem except soil looks pretty "dark", i.e. too rich. I'd probably cut the soil with some "poultry grit", or diatomaceous earth (NAPA 8822, Turface) or pumice (which I'm guessing you won'...

Re: Vermont Cold-Hardy, 2014

Dave, both of those nurseries ship within 10 days @ the latest. As far as seedling size, my friend Dan, out in Lincoln, Neb. (CactusDan19 on Flickr; also active on TooColdforCactus & Cactus & Succulents Groups -- both Yahoo) says he puts them out @ 1 - 1 1/2" & for the most part the...
