Re: Mass mammillaria elongata death
MissScout - I've had & have both Copper King & "regular" elongata. They do seem pretty rot prone :( I've saved both varieties with salvage cuttings -- & then lost of few of those. I keep them in clay pots now d/t this seeming propensity, to help cover me further from overH20ing...

Re: Fine sand...uh oh...
Better to recover from denial sooner than later! There were several things about cultivation & growing from seed that took a couple of years before the hard reality was in front of me. Trusting that the vast majority of people -- adjusting for individual geographic circumstances -- on CF ...

Re: Escobaria minima
My thought, when I saw your pic (After having a few solitary plants in-ground, praying they'd survive another upstate Winter, & to hold me over until cold-hardy seedlings I started growing the last couple of years finally have gotten large enough to put out this year) -- you have an entire cactu...

Thanks, Dave - that's what I did (since I don't haven't been involved with Disco's (oh wait, I was-- back in the '70's with John Travalta & the BeeGee's ). Just saw cephalium & jumped to conclusion. Aren't Disco's out of Brazil too, tho?

Beautiful Melo's, James! I'll take that over "Easter" Lillies. What species? And when you get seeds, can I get in line for some?

I'm impressed Dan! There are some real experts on CF - most of which wouldn't have even considered trying to name those seedlings! I not any expect, but my 1st response was -- Are U kidding? But apparently he hit your "sweet" spot

Steve - I'd be looking for a .22 with a silencer on it! Thank god I'm out in the country, cuz those Na lights REALLY drive me crazy! And I DON'T have any lights out @ my place except a 23W CFU backporch light that's only on when I let the cats in!

Re: Do you think it's time?
For me, that's near perfect -- in potting ratio & plant health! I still use terracotta, but more for species that are known to be very rot prone, or ones that I've killed d/t overH20ing. I probably would repot by end of Summer tho. These guys (N. magnif.) are prone to losing roots d/t lack of H2...

Re: Aquarium propagator (with pics)
Speaking of planting more seed, Mark -- we're JUST having our 1st 4 days of real Spring (60's & 70's), so going crazy outdoors (not really, but started day off manually lugging 30 bales of hay up flight of stairs to loft!). Did want to tell you all your seed that I planted last Fall is doing sup...

Re: =^-^= Hendry Terok ( unk melo ) UK
Hendry - Sent some Melo. matanzanus to Maja awhile back. 1st time thru - powder! Eutow - I tend to go heavier now, but have had luck with heavy duty/Bounty paper towels, double layered & still fits in "regular" envelope. Now I just save any small "bubble" envelopes (usually s...

Re: Any opuntia pads to spare?
Fendler - I'm sure there'll be many offers, but certainly i have some humifusa to spare. Of course they're not awake yet -- probably 2 - 3 wks before they "sit up", but I'll be glad to send 2 or 3 then. Being the Boston area, you'd be well served to acquired some O. fragilis (many varietie...
