Re: Tucson cactus heist

I would. Well, maybe only 100.

All kidding aside, I hope they catch the thieves and rescue the poor kidnapped cacti.

A real beauty. It's a pity some of them become invasive here. I sometimes wonder how, considering the number I manage to kill.

I'm guessing that's something of the optunia or cholla family.

Thank goodness we don't need to heat the houses here in SA (at least not here in Durban - some of the colder regions probably have heating).

The first one looks to me like Echinopsis chamaecereus. The last one looks like a Coryphantha - perhaps C. elephantidens. The one before it is a mammillaria.

Interesting... carnivorous plants are among the few non-succulent plants I like. I've never tried the "pitcher" varieties, but I've got a venus-flytrap that keeps trying to eat my cacti (well, not really, but its leaves keep encroaching on into the cactus pots).

Unfortunately I only have one Lithops (it's the only one I haven't killed yet) and it's not all that photogenic at the moment. Oh well, I can still enjoy all the other pictures!

Afraid of cats? They're harmless (for the most part - I have a few old scars that tell a different story). Although I like dogs, the larger ones are definitely more dangerous than any cat. Still, I realise that dogs in general are friendlier than cats (the thing with most cats is that you have to wi...

Just as I was about to give up, I finally spotted the cat.

Love the cat pictures by peterb and amanzed. :) My cat often sits among my outdoor plants, and often knocks over or is almost impaled by my indoor plants.

We get a lot of great birds here in SA, but my favourite is undoubtedly the hadeda ibis. They're rather noisy birds, and a lot of people don't like them, but they have loads of personality and are great fun to watch. There's a pair that have been nesting in a tree next-door since 2004, and I'm very ...
