It sure is interesting, Martin, to see cacti in their habitat.
Thanks for sharing!

I totally trust Ian's judgement but Jen's beautiful photos confirmed my plant's ID even further!

Thanks Jens, as I said before, I'll change the label and ...start trying to find a villosa maybe???

To add some variety to opinions about No1, I'll go with Espostoa(ex Trixanthocereus), most probably blossfeldiorum.

What about No2?
Not familiar with cerei but could it be a Trichocereus terscheckii?

I think those orange spots are not scars from scale insects. Exactly the same orange spots, made their appearance, looking like small blisters on the epidermis of the lowest pad and the one above of my Opuntia ficus indica(almost to all of them and to some other species of the genus too). There was ...

Thanks Ian! :D

When size is a crucial factor in finding the ID of a cactus, it's difficult to judge from photos, although here Mammillaria hahnianna in the background gives a "measure reference", I think.

Now, I've got to change the name on the label though...

My favorite genus! :D Wonderful pictures, thanks for sharing!!! So rare to see a cinerea flowering... Sun mustn't be the only factor for cinerea to flower. A friend of mine, experienced grower in Greece, with many Copiapoae, among them many cinerae, told me that they very rarely , if ever, flower. T...

Eriosyce(Neoporteria) senilis or villosa?

We had a discussion the other day about these species.
So the question grew larger in my mind: to which species my plant belongs?

Well, flowers vary between members of the species, creating many known varieties, such as var. leonensis, var. procumbens etc. I think it's the stem's "hanging" and twisting nature, the easily detachable spines(varying in density due to sun exposure) as well as the flower, an indicator of ...

Old names don't go away, they just become "not the latest" name. Changing labels isn't necessary and would often be a bad idea. Just because three species become lumped into one doesn't mean that the three pots you have are not worth distinguishing. I have a database where I always mainta...
