Re: southern Utah

Nice pictures peterb!! =D> I love Zion. Try the hidden canyon trail. Its hard, but very fun. And once you get up in the canyon there is ferns and mosses growing on either side of you. Its like the weeping rock hike only better :D I happened to pick up a decent book about cacti from one of the gift s...

I found yet another story that is very weird (and probably fake).

Re: Ariocarpus seed tips wanted

Wow guys. :D Thanks. So, correct me if im wrong, more grit and less sand = better ariocarpus soil? I was also considering adding a bit of dolomite limestone pellets to bring the ph closer to that of their natural habitat.

Re: Ariocarpus seed tips wanted

Well my normal mix is about 20% coco peat. Instead I will use for these seeds, one part 30 grit silica sand, one part sifted quartz sand (free from the desert), and one part coarse grit. Who thinks this will work? I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again, but why the aversion to soil? Cac...

Re: Ariocarpus seed tips wanted

Haha nice. What species were they? Did you just sow them in sand or did u make a special seedling mix? I usually do the top 8th inch in sand and the rest just a normal free draining cactus mix.

Ive never sowed these before and would appreciate some tips. I will probably graft 1 or 2 of each and grow the rest on their own...

Re: What are the biggest cacti seeds??

I believe that blossfeldia liliputina is the smallest cactus. Perhaps it has the smallest seeds as well? :-k
I will let someone more familiar with this species set us straight. And does anyone have measurments of Tephrocactus seeds in either cm or inches? Just curious.

What are the biggest cacti seeds??

Ive been wondering what the largest cacti seeds are. I havent seen any larger than those of Opuntia Basalaris. Some of mine max out at 1/4in.
