Lithops for ID
I bought a Lithops for $2 today at a plant show I went to. The booth they were at had nothing labeled with more than a genus, so I'm not sure what species this is. It's probably something common since they had tons of them, but oh well. It's my first Lithops so I'm happy with whatever it is. This on...

The show plants were all in the same area, so people were kinda walking around by all of them. The separate cacti/succulent exhibit table seemed to get a decent amount of attention though. There were a couple other people stopped there while I was staring at the cacti, and then afterwards I started ...

Well I have some updates from the past month. The little Crassula cutting didn't make it. It started to rot and ended up dying. I tried to cut the dying part off, but there was so little to the piece that it died anyway. In good news though, the possible Trichocereus is sprouting new growth! The oth...

30th annual Connecticut Flower and Garden Show
I went to the 30th annual CT flower and garden show today, and was glad to see some tables of cacti and succulents there. I talked to the guy at the cacti exhibit, and he was telling me about his bonsai and other plants. It was fun to discuss plants with him for a bit. I took pictures of most of the...

Aquarium gravel tends to be coated in some resin mixture to prevent minerals from leaching into the water. Not really all that great for aquariums, so it's probably not worth putting in pots either. Plus it's way too expensive for what you're getting. Try a farm supply store if you have one around. ...

Trade offer for any kind of plant, not just cacti
I enjoy collecting plants of all different kinds, so I thought I might post here to see if anyone is interested in trading. This is my first time trading on any forum, so I hope this works out. I have cuttings and pups of a few succulents I could trade in return for other plants, or seeds of non-suc...

Opuntia leaking sugar?
I noticed a few months ago that there where little white lumps on my Opuntias . Upon closer inspection (tasting), I realized it was crystallized sugar that appears to have been excreted from the areoles. Has anyone seen this happen before or know the reason? The plants are a bit thin right now since...

It's some species of Amanita , most likely A. muscaria though the large one is less red than usual. They're poisonous to eat, though it probably won't kill an adult (just make you very sick). Most of the species will make you ill at the least, while others are bad enough to kill you. People die in F...

My dad found a jar of those for really cheap at a store going out of business last year, so he brought em home. I found them to be a bit soft and slimy at first, but they had a delicate flavor of pickled cucumbers. I found them to go well on sandwiches, tacos, and on some veggie hotdogs I made, kind...

Suggestion for non-chemical pest eradication
I was just reading a post about someone's cactus being left in water overnight in the general section, and it reminded me of something I tried a few years ago. My grandmother in Finland had a potted rose she had gotten for mother's day, but when I saw it later in the summer, it looked somewhat sickl...

Well, my plants are still flowering. The older one only made a few flowers and stopped while I was away from home for a month, but the younger ones have more flowers than before. Also, I have some rooted cuttings that have been sitting in a plastic yogurt cup since August (with a bit of water every ...
