Our GH has done up to 250KMH winds, and does 150+ many times every summer. i think GH can stand up to a lot, but snow fall that is not removed could be a big issue... if your nto going big, i would perosnally prefer sunroom, if fo rno othe rreason than i can walk into it right from my house...no chi...

Yes, we have designed, more or less, but are always willing to change. we don't move back for a year or 2 so there is time to make changes. the way fuel has been going and the trend of humanity, i don't want to rely on fire as heat...electricity is going up in our area a lot, but i am now seriously c...

Fortunately we do have relatively warm days. the majority of winter are for sure above 0C. on our super cold spells of -10C the days are rather cool, they don't last. for those short lived cold strikes, secondary heat like propane or something wont be bad as it will be temporary. I should maybe say,...

warm grenhouses in cold climates, designs?
Well, we are moving back to canada in 1-2 years, and aside from getting our farm there setup with cold houses and such, we need at least one greenhouse that stays above 10C all teh time. our cliamte isnt that cold, -10 is a freek cold snap and lasts no more than a couple days if we even get one. The...

plastic fan here as well, but like iann said. For holes i prefer more smaller holes than fewer big ones....if they are big, i have to cut screen for the bottom, which takes time. less work, and water draining out is all i care about for holes lol. and like daiv said, more shallow ones. Square or rec...

Ive got a bunch of your seeds growing now as well. my first batch died this summer in a greenhouse disaster. but new ones on the way...be cool to compare the same plants in a different environment, see how they vary. thats a drag about their fruit quality, i was secretly hoping this might be using i...

Check bibliographies...ncl, cactus family, the cactaceae etc dont really base it on much...these cacti genera are pretty weakly studied it seems. I love thos eboks, but really they are literature review, they have not giving much new insight into certain areas, such as tropical vince type cacti. or ...

planting in fruit lowers chances a lot, like you say it invites rot a lot. also attracts bugs. i cleaned the seed sand sowed. I topped them to get more pads ya. they grew about 2 feet and cylinders before flattening on their own. when they started going flat i beheaded them. no reason to do it earli...

ya, it does seem rather Hylocereus like, but their seeds are way off. like, really way off. maybe it is a mutt...i have crossed harrisia with echinopsis, so im sure there are many heinz 57 cacti floating around when people dont keep records. i still think that ovary looks Harrisia like though. But a...

HAHA, harriet those are great, i feel for ya. hope nothing too bad. And daiv, man i feel you as well. why do i let lophophora fall without a flinch, but go to catch any opuntia pad that slips off a moving tray? Are we as cacti growers simply doomed to these catastrophes? the biggest killer of cacti i...
