Re: Vermont Cold-Hardy, 2014

Dave, my single E. coccineus died with all the others; humifusa just chugging along! Geoscape Desert Nursery has a good variety of Echinocer's -- & others. I've also bought big plants from Arizona Cactus Sales & Coldhardycactus.com with Kelly Grummons. Dave, I've also got a BUNCH of CH seedl...

Re: Vermont Cold-Hardy, 2014

Not sure on species, Dave, but reasonably sure with Echinocereus. Also like your "desert scrabble" & plant mix to your garden! Has a very "natural" look to it -- sort of like several newly "landscaped" yards from the floods I've passed. I'm sure the owners don't app...

Re: Echinopsis hybrids and bees

Always super beautiful to see your "Spring Announcement", Dennis -- but alas, even more painful this year, considering the heavy mortality that many of us "up North" suffered this Winter, including (one of) your last picture! Although Internet nursery bought, I got 2 blossoms las...

Re: Does anyone have any ideas FOR Round Robin 2014

Tristan - I'd even shorten turn around to 3 or 4 days. It doesn't take more than an hour for "Christmas Morning". You can sit on your chosen loot as long as you want, just add your plants & ship the rest of the plants on. Some plants might not be chosen from the beginning & conceiv...

Re: Taking the Plunge - Minime8484's 2013 Seed Adventure

Congratulations, Tristan! I don't remember -- did you plant a "finite" # of seeds/species or did that just happen to be the results? Now that we finally have some 60 & 70F weather (& higher on glass porch), I'm starting to unload the largest seedlings from the 5 different propagato...

Maja - How old is the F. macro. -- it doesn't look that big. Maybe there is hope that one of my Fero's will blossom before I go visit that "Big Cactus in the Sky"

Re: Free cutting

Dennis, I'll be glad to take 1 or 2 of those smaller upper branches! I kept my twin 2'-ers out on porch this late Fall too long. When they got moved upstairs to "warmer" climes, damage was done & it was a slow death thru the Winter for them. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Re: Hello all!

Welcome, Brando! Came very close to getting a job in Bemidji @ 6 yrs ago! Loved the area & the state! Who knows -- might still end up there in "retirement". Hopefully in time, you'll get to growing "Cold-Hardys" outside -- which is a real challenge, but very possible. There a...

Re: Another newbie on the forum

Welcome, Andi! So does "middle-of-North-America" mean Kansas/Oklahoma/Nebraska-ish? Are you growing any cold-hardy's outdoors? (My currents efforts, since house is filled & I'm renting, so GH of any size is out). I think what Gem was referring to (because that "issue" has com...

Welcome, Paige -- You're fortunate in that in addition to the "expertise" of a Planetwide forum, you have many experienced growers, societies & shows in your state :D Not to mention far more cactus-friendly growing conditions

Way up here in "tundra"land, Dennis, when ANY flowers come out, the hummers arrive! So I'm guessing they're back :D
