The Succulent Euphorbieae are 2 volumes, by White Dyer and Sloane, from 1941.

According to Wikipedia: The fruit are edible, containing numerous small seeds. It somewhat resembles the gooseberry in appearance and is of excellent flavor. It also states that young twigs and leaves can be eaten as a vegetable, but I assume that you're not planning on doing that :wink: I'm not sur...

What Bruce said on the id is correct (except for the spelling: susannae, not suzannae)

I don't see anyhting that looks like a disease or state of unhealthiness though.
What do you think looks wrong about it?

No, they are distinct species. Attenuata is by far the most common. Fasciata can be easily distinguished by its smooth inner leaf faces.
