What is the truth about Opuntia quitensis

I normaly don't mess with the little cactus pots at walmart but they had little Opuntia quitensis so I got 3 of them. I am in Central Florida and it will easily get into the 20's here. Most of what I see about them says they can't freeze at all. Is anyone growing them in areas that freeze and what i...

This plant was planted here. It is not naturalized.I don't even know if it is native. We do have lots of wild stricta here and I grow the spineless variety and the dilenii spiney variety. This plant has several characteristics that make it different than our local wild populations of stricta. But on...

I am 80 miles north of you guys. I hate when I go to Tampa and you guys are growing all kinds of cool stuff and here we freeze too bad. People out on the water grow some stuff here but I get in the teens. We got in the low teens every night for weeks winter before last.

The parts I pitch will freeze in the winter and die. The ones I keep I take inside. It would be too much to move in the larger ones. T...

Reminds me of the Opuntia stricta seedlings I see growing wild here. California coastal prickly pear looks similar also. Look those up and see if they help you.

I think I have the same one. Mine gets tall like yours and gets pups. I was told it is tetragonus "fairy castle" but mine gets way bigger and grows faster than what I know fairy castle to grow. I have been pitching extras from my plant in the woods for years.I am sure it is a cereus specie...
