This one only qualifies as it is slightly out of range. Echinocereus pentalophus growing happily at the eastern end of the Baviaanskloof, not to far from Port Elizabeth SOUTH AFRICA. More or less 10,000 km from home.

It looks to me like you have two different ones. Related to Aloe, but not exactly.

In the garden picture, the large one lower right is Haworthia attenuata. The close up is a Haworthia/aloe hybrid whose name escapes me.

My recollection is purely anecdotal, but in Southern California, we have some really cold nights when we have the "dry" winters of La Nina. Hard to call the winter of 2010/11 dry here, and we had one very cold night that hit a number of plants that survived the big freeze of 2007 unscathed...

It's just a guess on my part, but I'll bet that future years will produce more blooms. Those broken ends from the fall take a while to decide to bloom. I think that Harry is right about the bloomed stem stopping growing, but I'm pretty sure that it will divide there and grow a group of new stems, wh...

So here's my entry if they don't need to be round.
Faucaria candida. Truth be told, this is today, it had no open flowers on closing day, Nov. 15.

Why do they have to do that to those poor cacti?
Just to make money?
Well Peter, when there are too many gold, Golden Barrels in the market, why not sell some blue ones? I was completely shocked when I saw those poor plants.

Here's an interesting one for those who worry that their plants don't divide. According the the woman who owns Farm Tiras in Namibia, she has been visiting this Lithops for 24 years.

It looks like an Aloe nobilis that has been grown in too much shade.

So, I sent the pictures to Ernst Van Jaarsveld and he says Ruschia sp. Looks like someone needs to do a good study on them. What happened to your pictures Rian? Fortunately, I had copied them. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/225_Image1_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/225_Image2...

As an unexperienced succulentian, I love that desert lily and the plant with leaves curled like a spiral.
But what do I KNOW?
