It looks like you are growing this outside in North Carolina, is it safe to assume it can withstand temporary freezing? Your nights can get that cold, right?

That must bite being in one of the best places for growing cacti outside and having them freeze on you.

These column cactus are supposedly in Pahrump, NV. According to weatherbase.com, it gets down to 26 degrees:
