Re: Bigfoot Collections: for real?

We all live with the fantasy that our lives are private. We know that our drugstore purchases, clothing sizes, charity choices and Google searches are all “out there”, along with most of the minutiae of our lives. Yet most of us still use online names when we join a forum. Nobody wants to see a repl...

You're absolutely right. I didn't think of that. Fixed it. Thanks!

Re: Bigfoot Collections: for real?

If it helps, I've bought a few plants from them over the years, the last time 5 years ago (4/08). I don't recall any problems. You can PM me for his email, address and phone number.

All of which agrees with the Dave's Garden info, so they've been around for a while. I'd give them a call.

Re: Does that mean what I think...?

Those are certainly flowers (or "cyathia" if you want to be pedantic). You can take a look at http://www.euphorbia.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for photographic confirmation - it's a great site for euphorbias and well worth a look.

Re: artificial lighting for a small space?

I don't know whether this will help or not, but I have a small light stand that uses two 2-tube, T12, 24" fixtures. I'm using Gro-Lux Wide Spectrum tubes. The fixtures are set 13" above the trays and I'm getting 1500 foot-candles on my light meter. I've got euphobs and haworthias growing t...

Re: artificial lighting for a small space?

Definitely agree on the Haworthias. You might also consider some of the Euphorbias, like E. francoisii, E. decaryii, or E. cylindrifolia (just be aware that euphorbias have irritating sap).

Gymnocalycium bruchii?

When I first saw this at the local garden center, I thought it was Gymno bruchii. A couple of weeks later, I'm much less sure. What do you think?

Thanks.

Re: So I bought a cactus

Thanks, Steve. Normally, I stop buying in the winter but this year I just finished re-wiring my lights (T12s -> T8s) and I now have about 40% more light than I did. So there's a lot of plants (mainly Euphorbs and Haworthias) that are being relegated to the darker edges of the trays, which leaves me ...

Re: Haworthia Sources in US

Arid Lands (http://www.aridlands.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) currently lists 265(!) haworthias. Out of Africa (http://www.out-of-africa-plants.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) has nowhere near that number but they have a bunch that you w...

Re: So I bought a cactus

Truthfully, I was surprised it froze, too. I was aware of its cold hardiness and thought that it'd be okay. On the other hand, I knew that I was taking a chance. And I suppose the seller has some responsibility beyond his stated lack of any responsibility. I could probably fight it out with Paypal. ...
