Hi Charles I call that mystery E trigloc, E coccineus v. paucispinus. That flower seals the deal. Ive been staring at that for 2 weeks now. It is not self fertile.

Echinocereus coccineus v. paucispinus, or a hydrid of E coccineas v paucispinus and E coccineus v. rosei. I do not think it is an E trigloch, the flowers are wrong. I took my friend Burnie this time, he wanted to go out and have a look. That E viridiflorus is right at his feet in this pic, as you can see behind him is a pouroff about 100 or so feet deep. the cactus was 3-4 feet from the edge. I looked uphill because there was no downhill...... :lol: I dont stay...
