Re: Stenocereus eruca

I have one that I bought when it was 6 inches long. Now it is almost two foot long and it now has a pup. I do not use sand. My mix is 25% organic and 75% inorganic. I'll try to get a picture. 8)

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!

The last picture I see some brown stuff. I have that on one of my Ortegocactus macdougallii and thought there was something wrong with it. I have another one and it has no browning ? corking?. Is that normal for that plant?

Ferocactus

This cactus is open pollenated seed grown from my seeds. The issue is, can this be a hybrid. I have Ferocactus or Thelocactus hamatacanthus, and other Ferocactus, but it lacks the extra long spines of the hamathacanthus. The flower is the same as well as the body. Just lacking the extra long hook sp...

Re: Another young giant Cactus in San Diego

I have mine in full sun and it looks like the first picture. Bottom picture not sure, maybe too close to the house and radiant heat with not enough water? 8)

Re: what is this purple coloring?

I maybe wrong, but your plant looks like Ferocactus emoryi. I have my in the yard and the skin does turn purplish. My are located in direct sunlight all day. My younger plants are more protected from direct sunlight. I transplanted them to the yard after they were more than 6 inches in diameter. 8)

Re: Several Echinopsis in trouble

I would look at all the plants. If the roots look bad, cut them out. If the plants' root end is mushy, cut that out. If the mush goes into the body, it maybe too far gone. The good roots I would wash and clean. Wait a week before repotting. The soil looks too heavy or not enough drainage. Too sandy....

Re: When to replace soil in a pot.

If you are using square pots and the pot starts to become a round pot, root bound and time to repot. If your soil has too much organics, the soil may have dried out and the water is passing through the side of the pots. Organics are harder to get wet and takes longer to dry out. My cacti mix is 25% ...

Re: Los Angeles Rains & Cold

In the Valley, let it rain. It's been so dry this winter the 1.5 inches of rain last week was just what the plants needed. This week more rain and let it come. I loose less cactus outside than I do in the greenhouse. A lot of cactus have been flowering already, just a bit early. 8)

Re: Mammillaria sp. from the State of Mexico

A few years ago I did a hanging plant. The plant doesn't require a lot of water, very little leaks out. The pot was broken at the bottom, so why not give it a try. The plant is doing fine.

Re: Clovers near my cacti

No chemicals, I do use Round-up and have not lost a mature plant. I am careful and I try not to get any on the plant. I have problems with Bermuda grass.
