Hi Pharfignewton, (love the handle), I think the first one is backebergiana too and elongata for the last one... but I disagree about the id of the second one, I believe it is an Espostoa... the hair looks to be much softer and denser, and shorter than what I'd expect to see on C. senilis.

I hear you guys and I gotta say I've had a few rotten Mamms in my day, I've even managed to kill a couple of the more hardy species... yes and a few Mamm duwei have bitten the dust too for no obvious reason. Of course though some species are more prone to succumb to overwatering, I would prefer to m...

One Maritima flower is better than none!
I've often bemoaned the fact that "these things never flower here in Tas because it's not warm enough". ...Well temperatures are still not more than normal, but this one has made a liar of me. One flower and another bud starting to form. Can't complain about that I suppose. http://i8.photo...

Thanks guys. Daiv, I assume you meant Pachy marginatus... that stem was approx 8 inches across, I wasn't sure what I was looking at, cause all the P marginatus I've seen have much thinner stems, Pic number 12 is P pringlei. Harry, It was a nice day, a bit overcast... it was a bit hard to tell, the p...

Christchurch Botanical Gardens.
Hi Friends, unfortunately for me the holiday is now over... finally got my feet back on the ground, and back to reality after my much needed break. Before we went away I promised some pics of the cacti at Christchurch Botanical gardens if we got to visit there. The collection is not very large but c...

Ain't it purdy? ...And just in time
I was hoping I wouldn't miss this one, ...tomorrow, my wife and I fly across the 'ditch' to NZ for a few weeks in celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary (and a hard earned break!), so it's goodbye to my friends and my glasshouse habitat. Will be visiting the botincal gardens in Christchurch, ap...
