And you're probably happy that your wife didn't decide to go out and just buy a plastic cactus.

... The hatch rate is now 13 seeds out of 70, so just one seed shy of 20%. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.... dvg

... past. I'm not sure it actually removes the chemical inhibitors, but that technique probably does allow moisture to better penetrate the seed coat. dvg

Happy to report that another M. theresae hatchling was found among the newest batch of seeds today.

This seed, still retains an imprint left from it's protective seed coat.

Peterb, M. theresae is a crytocapic cacti, and makes cryptocarpic fruit, which as you mentioned ripens inside the plant body, with the seed sometimes not being released until the plant dies.

... stock to try some different germination techniques. But for now I have the fifty seeds soaking in distilled water overnight on a seedling heatmat. dvg
