Re: Mineral mix and fertilizer

Thank you Steve, Elie and Dave,

Good I will look for a 1-1-1 ratio fertilizer with micronutrients. I have a 18-18-21 tomato fertilizer with micronutrients that I could use at 1/3 or 1/4 strength ?

If I have other questions after reading Steve's post I will let you know.

Have a good day !

Mineral mix and fertilizer

Hello, I am on my way to switch to an almost 100% mineral mix and have a question. When growing season will come, somebody really into bonsai told me to use a 3-1-2 ratio fertilizer (ex. 24-8-16) to 1/8 strength every time I water. It sounds logical to me, but can it be applied to cacti too ? What d...

Ok temp is actually around 29 C (84 f) during the day and 24 C (77 f) during the night. I will rise it a little bit like you suggest. No rot for now. They will be 3 months old in 2 weeks, they start to look more like their parents now !

Am I doing it right and other questions ...

Hello, I started some seeds of Coryphantha vivipara and Echinocereus engelmannii almost 2 months ago. I used seedling trays in the baggy method. Since then I had to open the baggy every 2-3 weeks to add a little bit of boiled rain water because the surface of the mix (50% seedlings potting mix and 5...

Re: Dead or dark Echinocereus engelmannii ?

Thanks George ! Yes, all the fruits from the hundreds of live engelmanniis that I found were already eaten by rodents/birds. I was there for a week in September and the only seeds I found of this specie were on that dark cacti. At least it did not die in vain ... His descendants will grow 4600 kilom...

Dead or dark Echinocereus engelmannii ?

Hello, I collected seeds from this E. engelmannii near Phoenix, AZ. Most specimens were ''yellow'', but this one was really dark. I cannot say if it was dead or alive. What do you think ? Is there a var. something that looks like this ? Anyway the seeds were viable and the seedlings are 3 weeks old ...

Re: LONG HARD WINTER.

there might be lot of other reasons aside of "not getting enough cold" for this like: small size, fighting some disease, getting not enough sun previous season, luck of some nutrients (P) and so on. This is true, but my cacti are pests free since a year (I am crossing my fingers while say...

Re: LONG HARD WINTER.

For the last winters I used to leave my plants on the windowsill and reduce watering to a minimum, maybe once a month between November and march. Temperature was around 62 to 75 F (17-23 C) on the windowsill. It was not perfect, but it worked except that only mammilarias flowered during spring and s...

Best type of polycarbonate for a GH ?

Hello, The greenhouse I plan to buy comes in 3 models = - Clear polycarbonate panels - Twin wall 4 mm polycarbonate - Hybrid, clear for the walls and twin wall for the roof. At first I tought the clear panels, 90 % light transmission, was the best choice for cacti. But the manufacturer states that t...
