Re: Sick or not? Ech. texensis has pink area..UPDATED! Final Chapter.

Keith thank you for bringing up those cacti (stolen or not) from habitat. I cannot begin to tell you how INFURIATING it is to see these morons who are stripping the lands because they can. I contacted one selling Echinocactus who very obviously ripped them from the ground with terrible roots. TERRIB...

Re: Where do people disappear too?

Apparently a lot have gone to Social Media, but as at the moment cacti are a fad many came from there anyway and have simply returned. From the point of junior members in our club you usually lost them when they went to University, then it was hit and miss if they ever returned afterwards. Also gir...

Re: Hana's cacti

Sheer perfection, what else can be said? :) I have a question about E. Horizonthalonius how do you treat this one in watering/fertilizing as an adult ? Any advice on seed sowing? I’ve read that seed is erratic to germinate or generally has poor germination. Please let me know your thoughts as I’m lo...

Re: Where do people disappear too?

I think for most people “life happens” priorities shift, a new baby, or career, responsibilities, moving, etc. I’ve spent time on both this forum and the bcss, and there’s a wealth of knowledge in both spaces. I think most of the migration for interested minds has been towards “fast” platforms like ...

Re: Good places to get Cactus

Mesa gardens has Conophytum plants for sale for 1/10 the price of Ebay. I bought a few unfortunately only domestic shipping and many are sold out already. http://www.cactusspecialties.com/ This place seems to be gone ? I have bought conophytums from them in the past they always send extra plants. W...

Re: Ghost Town

I wish this forum and others were as busy as some of the other places where people congregate and talk plants. Fb is hot mess not to mention it’s constant privacy violations and questionable ethics. I wish more people were concerned and would migrate elsewhere, but here we are. I also feel a lot of ...

Re: Do any fungicides actually work as a preventative for sensitive species

Here’s the thing about growing plants in an environment very different than what they’re accustomed to, you’re going to run into a lot of problems ](*,) ](*,) . I know, trust me, it’s mad frustrating. Good culture is everything—prevents a lot of avoidable issues. So if you’re growing in a very humid...

Re: Looking For Wholesale/bulk

I think the charm of rare or unusual plants is mostly scarcity. The minute whatever plant becomes widely available it becomes regular (still wonderful), but that “thing” is gone. Also most unusual plants are often very slow growing, difficult to grow/propagate, etc. Think what can you grow really we...

Re: Cactus smuggling ring busted.

If seed and plants are not made more affordable and readily available we are going to lose. It’s plain and simple. Any arrogant barb-wire doting organization is going to be responsible for the decimation that will come. Do they think by making it “difficult” they’re going to impede human greed? No c...

Re: Cactus smuggling ring busted.

I’m glad these clowns got caught, but I’m sure many others have slipped on by without any issues and the penalties are too lax. eBay every spring has 1-2 sellers selling bundles of 10-20 Ariocarpus “unwanted from private property ”. They are 100% from habit and I’m almost positive poached. eBay give...

I was quoting you earlier Pushrestart hence the italics. I have been once and at my age I don't think I will get again even after the lockdown on flights comes off, since a 2 hours 19 minutes flight from London to Madrid then a 14 hour flight from Madrid to Santiago in "Cattle Class" with...
