cut/break off->leave on tabel out of direct sun for cut area to dry/heal for a week -> place into pot and dont water until roots form.

more or less thats the general procedure with few variations for easier species :)

great looking plant there iann. do they ever have huge bursts of flowers on you?

we grew lots of semps in canada, they did great. some redding and mild frying in summer but not too bad and temps would get 30s. we grew them all along the driveway and around rocks in gardens, looked fantastic.

thats good to know. I love "bug" shots, but not the flying kind so i find further distances incredibly irritating. i have a 70-300 mm that I almost never use because of the distance i must be. another reason i have held off the 100mm and no sure about the 70's. unfortunately, my eyesight s...

my money is on light. heat sure, but if the heat is right, and its sunny day vs cloudy day for some day bloomers, it means the difference between open or not. cant say much as all plants differ, but i really notice this here with day bloomers like Lophophora, Frailea, Gymnos. then other day bloomers...

thanks for the tip Gallows. Funny how when i lived there i had no idea it existed! We will be bringing all our plants back except the large trees/wines/cacti etc. anything small, and cuttings/seeds of the big stuff. we will still have land here in Taiwan as well, so nothing will be really lost. Daiv...

what a great photo thread mr CJ! they are looking good so far, and exactly like they should. The "other one" is strange, but i bet it straightens up soon. I voted selenicereus just cause i have had best results with caput on this stock, but harrisia is very good as well. i dont care about ...

cutting areoles is a preference. cutting areoles on 350 plants is going to take you awhile though.

But new growth from the stock should be cut.

POC: Yes, you are right! i have been reading a lot lately about this kind of thing, and we will be building a compost GH as an experimental. there are some pretty neat designs out there! Because we will be using a solar greenhouse and underfloor heatsink type setup i think I will keep the cactus in ...

too late now, and that graft will still grow for sure. but with myrtles, its best to get them to grow a bit and graft in the new growth (blue area).

they will still be fine im sure, so long as th core wasnt woody.
