That is definately an Agave victoria-reginae. As others said, treat it as a cactus. If you water a bit more frequently than a cactus it will not mind. I have to agree with Ian that it looks pretty rootbound. By repotting in a larger pot you will see an acceleration of growth. This is probably one of...

Thanks Iann

it is probably the best time to sow them in Cyprus then since our days are around 20C and nights 12-13C (which I raise to 15-16 with a heater).

Rebutia, Sulcorebutia etc

Hi guys even though I am improving at germinating cacti seeds, I am still finding difficulties with some species, namely Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Weingartia and similar. I know about Sulcorebutias that the seed needs to be fresh, does the same go for the rest of this family? Are there any special te...

Christer I have purchased from several seed suppliers in the last few years, some were better than others. However, I found that Succseed's always had the higher germination percentage. It's a shame he does not do larger quantities as I often buy 100 seeds of each plant. (I must say that I always ge...

Hi Christer

I just received a packet from your fellow countryman Matts of Succseed. Among the seeds are some Eriosyce, so it will be great to have some info on how to best germinate the seed. Shall I wait for Ian,s input as well or do you have any tips to share? :D

Wonderful

Beautiful seedlings Peter. I agree with you that growing plants from seed is fantastic. One actually can become addicted to it. But then again, what a pleasure, a feeling of accomplishment really, in seeing a seed germinating and then the seedling slowly forming into a plant.

Hi Isometric I have a large Gymnocalycium horstii with lots of offsets. In the first years I had it, it was contantly shrunk, even though it kept offsetting. At some point I decided to water more frequently and that did it, it blew up back to its nice shiny, non wrinkled skin self. Obviously my sugg...

Hi V

thank you for the reply and the insight. I see how it can be used. I have to admit though that I am always a bit reluctant in using such methods. I guess I am a bit "old fashioned" in promoting branching by chopping heads off :D

What are the practical uses?

It all sounds quite interesting and the "home recipe" approach is greatly appreciated. With the danger of sounding too naive, let me ask what I think are a couple of the most basic questions: What is the actual use and how one (or one's plants) will benefit? Which types of plants can this ...

Excellent!

Hi Harald I have just come across your posting and it is one of the best I have seen. Not only the pictures are amazing, the knowledge you share with us is of great value. Thanks. Living so far away, I can only dream of visiting cacti and succulent habitats one day and postings like yours are a grea...

Most of my Echinopsis (hybrids or not) are now mature enough to flower. And flower they have! I know Bill will get a kick out of these. The names are the ones that I bought the plants with, some of them from ebay. Echinopsis K-19 http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y157/cdjamas/Echinopsis_K19-1.jpg Ech...

Hildenwintera aureispina

This is my Hildenwintera aureispina in flower. This is an 8 year old plant that grows fast, without a hassle and flowers almost throughout the year. Of course our climate helps alot.
