Re: Microsoft Edge

Try holding down CTRL and pressing the =/+ key to zoom in a bit (CTRL and - to zoom back out; CTRL and 0 to reset it to 100%) I'm trusting this works in Edge the same as in Chrome!. I have exactly the same problem in Chrome. I have this forum set at 125% and the BCSS one at 150%.

Re: Echinopsis subdenudata

As I said earlier, descriptions based on a plant's behaviour in the wild might not match how it behaves in cultivation. The original description https://www.cactuspro.com/lecture/Kiesling-Schweich/CardenasArticles/page-269.en.html has it as "simple". Ten years ago, I posted a photo of some...

Re: Echinopsis subdenudata

So here are like 9 cacti. So are like 9 different seeds? Should I let them together? Yes, they are separate plants. Whether you leave them together is up to you: you might feel they look better together, you might not want to use up the space that nine separate pots would take. There's a risk that,...

No. I don't think your flower is about to form a fruit. I predict that it will drop off within a week.

Re: Echinopsis subdenudata

They do produce offsets eventually but sparingly. If you've bought a pot with five heads in it, they're almost certainly five separate seedlings. The original description described it as 'simple', ie not offsetting, although behaviour in cultivation can be wildly different to behaviour in nature in ...

Re: A very common cactus, but what is it?

There are two similar plants being confused here. Disocactus ackermannii, originally published as Epiphyllum ackermannii, is really uncommon in cultivation. Its stems are always flat; cultivation isn't very easy. A hybrid (probably D. speciosus x D. phyllanthoides), referred to as Epiphyllum "A...

Re: "Acanthocalycium kuehassii"

It does exist but it was published as a Lobivia and it isn't spelled quite right, which is why your search may be struggling! Walter Rausch published it as Lobivia kuehhasii, in honour of Franz Kühhas, in 1990. It's arguably no more than a form of Acanthocalycium thionanthum (the normal ssp rather t...

Re: Is there a difference between Echinopsis oxygona or multiplex and eyriesii?

They're a bit different-looking but ultimately the same species. There's a good article on them/it in The Cactus Explorer No8 http://www.cactusexplorers.org.uk/journal1.htm

Re: Alternatives to Anderson's "The Cactus Family"

I have the 6 volume Die Cactaceae (in German) if you don't have it and need anything from it Ieland, so can scan it if needed. It's available as a pdf at https://cactuspro.com/biblio/en:accueil I would really recommend this resurce - there are some fantastic books and journals here. They've made an...

Hi, I'm a moderator on the BCSS Forum (I assume your comment is about the Forum rather than about becoming a member of the Society). However, I don't have the magic buttons needed to get new members up and running - Bill does this. I've emailed him to alert him to your pending membership and he says...

Re: Confusing Rebutia species

Cut off a flower and slice it vertically. Have a look at how the style joins on to the outside flower tube. I predict that the style joins fairly high up, close to where the petals begin to flare out, as in the lower flower in this pic. aylreb.JPG This tells you it's in Rebutia subgenus Aylostera (o...
