Re: What is it ans how it can be countered?

Thank you very much, everyone! Now I am much more reluctant about this then I was before! I was very afraid that it is some kind of fungi infection. Now I am sure it is just natural corking...

Re: What is it ans how it can be countered?

How long did it take from when the discoloration first appeared until it moved up the stem to the point shown in the picture? It took quite long... I've acquired this cactus in this very pot (seller told me it could live without repotting for several years). Originally it had quite small amount of ...

Re: From Russia with cacti

As I understand you have bought Melocactuses as "Cactus Mix 5cm"? How long did you wait to cephalium creation? Because as I know it usually about 10 years from seed to cephalium. Nope, not all of my cacti come from shops. I buy some of them from other cactus-crazy people ) Plus there are ...

Re: What is it ans how it can be countered?

Well, gymnocaliciums are not fast growers at all...

Yet I've had an Echinopsis, which grew quite fast and it was almost COMPLETELY consumed by such corking... That scared me...

Re: Snowcat's dark window cacti collection

*Cacti stories* Time for another story! This time our hero will be a small Melocactus Matanzanus. I've bought in a shop (Auchan, OBI or maybe even Ikea) and it already had a cephalium. Smaller, then you can see on a picture, but still it already had it. http://www.alphatraveller.org/gallery/i.php?/u...

Re: From Russia with cacti

It's really cool to have Melocactuses with this cephalium. But these cacti needs a bit another conditions for growing so I even not think about purcharging. Actually, I find that Melocaci are LESS difficult to cultivate in a flat then most other species. The main problem for me is to ensure a cold ...

Re: someone could tell me the species of these cacti?

They are too little to tell exactly, but I am sure that the second one is a Melocactus (I have several of them of different ages).

The first one is probably an Echinopsis... But those long spines... Maybe it's an Acanthocalicium, but I'd vote for Echhinopsis.

Re: What species will this little cactus be

My guess is Notocactus agnetae. I am sure that this IS a Notocactus...

I prefer old-style Naming without those all-inclusive Parodia and Echinopsis genus introduced by Hunt, so I use names like Notocactus, Eriocactus, e.t.c. :)

Hello, Alexandr! :) I am also from Russia )

There are not THAT many Russian cactus lovers here on english-speaking forum. You have a nice collection, it is very good organized, mine is much more chaotic.

Thanks, guys! As for the pot - it is a new one, larger then the previous was. It is sitting in this pot only for a week or so.
