Re: Dead top – should it be cut?
I assure you I know the difference between “cactus” and “cacti”, I guess it was just an autocorrect error from a quickly-typed post :D IMG_9893.jpeg But, you are correct that I have little knowledge of cacti, so any advice is certainly welcomed. I appreciate you taking the time to help me. These wer...

Dead top – should it be cut?
This cacti went through a period of neglect and the top of it has turned brown. It’s probably 3 feet tall and the top foot is like this. Would it be best to chop it off and hope for regrowth?

Re: Ants on Cholla
Interesting to know. Did the ants trigger this nectar excretion somehow? I don’t think it had done this before, but maybe I just didn’t notice

Ants on Cholla
I managed to smuggle some teddy bear cholla balls on my flight back from California a couple months ago and finally got around to potting them. The bigger one has sprouted some roots already, the smaller one has not. Several hours later, I noticed that the smaller one had ants crawling on it. They c...

Help! Spilled nail polish remover
I was trying to clean a melted bug trap off my window when I slipped and splashed some nail polish remover. Some of it hit a leaf of one of my succulents. The leaf started turning dark and oily. In retrospect I should have pulled it off right away, but I didn't. Now it's spreading to other leaves. D...

Re: Entangled roots - how to separate??
Due to the size I couldn't hold it over a bucket, so I just layed them sideways and poured water over it. Then I put on some disposable gloves and spent an hour or two clearing out the dirt and untangling the larger roots. It was interesting. Ran to Lowes a half hour before it closed to get a few po...

Entangled roots - how to separate??
These 3 cacti were all in one pot. I was going to separate them, but I didn't think about the roots. They were growing out the bottom hole. How can I separate the severely intertwined roots? Will I have to rip them all off? Or should I just not separate them and put it all in one big pot? image.jpg ...

Re: Broken Cactus - what to do?
Ok. Since the pot I bought is so big, can I plant both halves in it? Or do they need space?

Should they be separated?
These are some more cacti I rescued from that office. I'm concerned about them growing against each other, both for the bases and the roots. Should they all be separated? Or just the center one? Or are they ok the way it is?

Re: Broken Cactus - what to do?
Went to lowes today to get supplies. How far up around the base should I fill the pot with soil?

Re: Broken Cactus - what to do?
New roots have sprouted on the top piece, and surprisingly, 2 new sprouts have grown on the bottom piece.
How many roots should it have before I plant it upright?

Re: Need help - Mealybug(?) & Broken Sprout
I guess you're right - the white stuff isn't what's killing it. I've had several cacti in the past killed by a mysterious white mold, but unlike that, this stuff isn't spreading to cover the whole cactus. So, you're also right it doesn't look good, but I'll see what I can do. It seems to be maintain...
