Re: Winter in Arizona - my prime cactus flowering season

Fantastic James! I don't believe I've told you, but I managed to find seed of M. hofackerianus - will have to share some seedlings with you in spring!

Check out iNaturalist. There's probably quite a few observations of P. greggii on there you can use!

Czech seed suppliers often take their time, but the quality is typically great, and so are the prices.

Re: What plant do you want most, but have been unable to find?

I was very happy to get a Backebergia and several Jasminocereus this year! Still looking for many of the rare Brazilian columnars.

Re: Mammillaria bertholdii from seeds - tips

Have you tried it already? Yes, someone in town has two grafted clones which have been heavily propagated already. I degrafted mine and rooted them. New growth is now much less bloated. I hope to have seed next year. Are you talking about theresae or bertholdii? I've heard that bertholdii is not th...

Re: Pterocactus

I have not found them hard to grow, as long as they get a cool winter rest. I remember seeing a slide show on Patagonia once with Austrocactus and Pterocactus growing near the shore and large icebergs floating past in the sea in the background, so they do get pretty far south towards cooler climate...

Armatocereus germinate well, but may take a few days or weeks, and grow fast initially from seed. Fairly tolerant in terms of watering and low temperatures when dry.

Re: Mammillaria bertholdii from seeds - tips

No more difficult than M. theresae in my opinion! Much more beautiful grown hard on own root. Have you tried it already? Yes, someone in town has two grafted clones which have been heavily propagated already. I degrafted mine and rooted them. New growth is now much less bloated. I hope to have seed...
