That eruca has some serious spines alright. My kind of cactus  Daiv how is your's doing? I had better get mine oriented into the ground sooner rather than later. It is still upright on day#2. I googled for some images and also found this nice page of pictures from Southampton BCCS 2004 with ...

couple of new additions and afternoon pics

I got a couple of nice ebay cacti today. A little Coleocephalocereus goebelianus, and a Machaerocereus/Stenocereus eruca. They look like healthy plants. I put the eruca upright in a pot but can tell already that it has no sense of balance and will be ready to lay over in the ground by the time sprin...

It is another nice day in southern Arizona at latitude 32 degrees N.

High today of 63F, last night's low was 52. RH 40%. Storm going by to the north.

For most of the last week it has been highs in the low 70's and lows in the low 40's, and very dry.

I've got 4 outdoor mammillarias in bloom.

Yes, "Collared Peccary (Javelina, Pecari tajacu) is the only wild, native, piglike animal found in the United States."

They are native to the Sonoran desert, I don't know where else.

javelinas

A herd of javelinas have been hanging around my neighborhood lately. They are tough animals to be able to survive on the streets of Tucson. Here they are the other day munching on a non-native opuntia for breakfast. 6 people have been bitten around here this year, according to the newspaper. http://...

Cactoblastis cactorum

Cactoblastis cactorum is a moth, not a plant unfortuneately. Hopefully they will nip it in the bud, those invasive species can get out of control. I don't think that the eagle will lose it's perch anytime soon though. Moth threatens prickly end for Mexico's national symbol Jo Tuckman in Mexico City ...

Hey Bill come by for a visit, but please don't bring a shovel. :) That Stenocereus victoriensis is supposed to be a variant of the pruinosis. But the pruinosis seem to have more of the waxy white coating than do the the vic. I'll have to see what happens as they get larger. The pruinosis have some o...
