Re: Discocactus horstii?
True, but when grown outside, watch out for spider mites,as they are sensitive to them. I lost my whole collection of Echinopsis because of spider mites....DaveW wrote:
Echinopsis are much easier to grow only requiring normal cactus cultivation and still have spectacular flowers.

Re: Discocactus horstii?
[quote="DaveW"]Certainly an Echinopsis not a Discocactus. Discocacti are rather touchy and don't like cold in the UK so need to be kept warmer in winter, and the same in Norway being Brazilian species. D. horstii is the most commonly grown. Are you sure horstii is the most commonly grown D...

Re: Arjen's 2017
I read Rebutias don't like high temperatures. I live in Japan and the summers here are very hot and humid (30 +Celsius (86+ Fahrenheit) 24/7).But it was actually after seeing Arjen's beautiful pics of some Rebutias that I decided to try them anyways, and I bought two very small minisculas. I don't t...

Re: "Touchable" Cacti Species?
Why are gloves a problem for you! There are so many types of gloves to choose from. For small cacti I use plastic gloves. Or I use chopsticks. Cacti with a lot of spines are often very beautiful......

This may take some time. They're all very small plants.Armen Tsirunyan wrote:Very nice collection! Do share some flowers when they arrive!

Re: ID, Please.
[quote="DaveW"]I agree with Spence, number 2 is one of the Parodia(Notocactus) ottonis group, probably ottonis. There are quite a few names in the group, particularly at variety level, but most look similar, ottonis, oxycostatus, linkii etc.
Thanks, Dave.
Thanks, Dave.

Re: ID, Please.
 #1 looks like a Mammillaria from the apex, but I can't tell if it has ribs or tuberculate spirals. #2 looks more like a Melocactus or Echinopsis to me. The stout spines and distinct ribs whisper "not a Parodia" to me. PS I am no expert :D Thanks for helping me with number two, S...

I think you are right about the plant being an erubescens Salazar. Close relative of the scopa. Thanks a lot.Salazar wrote:#1 Could be Parodia scopa or Parodia eurubescens

Re: My plants for 2017.
You're right Arjen. I will have some problems in the future. But for now I have enough space. The fact that that they're all cramped together is because they're 'under' shade cloth because I've just repotted them. After a week or two I can move some plants (the Melocacti, the Discocactus, and the The...

Re: 2 unknown cacti
I had a bunch of them in my garden once, until they got eaten by red spidermites. I always thought they were Echinopsis eyriesii (?)

Re: ID, Please.
Thank you, Greenknight. It would be nice if it's an ottonis. It's easy to make new plants with the offsets of ottonis ,that often already have some roots on them. This appeals to me.

My plants for 2017.
Repotted some plants and bought some new ones, mostly Parodias.
