Re: Anyone else zone 3?

I was being literal many non native plants are dead around here because of the recent drop of temperature. Mainly during fall and spring but mid winter temps have been the lowest seen in some 30 years. Landscapers are raking in the cash replacing all the dead plants. Also replacing them with hardier...

Re: Anyone else zone 3?

These would be the most reliable:

Echinocereus varidiflorus
Escobaria missouriensis
Escobaria vivipara
Pediocatus simpsonii

With some protection these should survive:

Echinocereus fendleri
Echinocereus mohavensis
Echinocereus xlloydii
Escobaria sneedii
Maihueniopsis darwinii

Re: Some Gymnocalycium covered with salts coating?

Lol! No, it's no joke. I have no idea what it can be then. Maybe your theory is true. "It looks like these gymnos are filtering water through themselves and release salt on their skin." :-k

Taste it, many cacti secrete a sugary substance out of their areoles. How do you know it's salt?

Re: Winter growers with artificial light

Under that light which hangs 26 inches above the table, I grow various very small C&S seedlings and a ghost pepper plant (Capsicum chinense x C. frutescens) all year round. During the summer I place my Beaucarnea recurvata v. intermedia and Crassula ovata under that light as well. Until winter c...

Re: Winter growers with artificial light

I grow several cacti and succulents on a 2ft x 2ft table under this light setup next to a west facing window.
