Re: Stapeliad ID: Anyone know what this is?
It is a Huernia . I would say Huernia macrocarpa :) Thanks so much for the id! I am trying to increase my stapeliad collection via seed and plants and this plant was the last one I bought locally. incidentally, in my region grows Caralluma europaea which I think is the only European stapeliad, (pos...

Re: Stapeliad ID: Anyone know what this is?
H. macrocarpa is probably correct, but check H. schneideriana too as it is similar. Thanks so much for the id! That makes it my first Huernia to add to my small collection of Orbea, Stapelia, Hoodia and a few others. It turned up on a stall outside a fruit and veg shop here last year - not the plac...

Stapeliad ID: Anyone know what this is?
Can anybody ID: this stapeliad for me? It flowers for months on end from the same point at soil level and looks as if it might have seed capsules forming. Small flowers about 1 cm in diameter, no apparent aroma.
Thanks, Peter
Thanks, Peter

not exactly a succulent - but what a wonderful plant!
Not really a succulent but I saw that another member had posted pics of Lachenalia aloides so here´s some of Lachenalia viridiflora blooming in December; truly amazing colour and critically endangered in the wild but fortunately easy to grow and sets plenty of seed.

Re: Lachenalia aloides . . .
Lachenalias are superb plants! Not sure if they qualify as succulents but it doesn´t matter when they have such lovely flowers. yours looks like Lachenalia aloides var. quadricolor - I have some seedlings of it at the moment. Will post a pic or two of Lachenalia viridiflora flowering back in December.

Looking for Ferocactus seeds
Enormous thanks to those I´ve exchanged seeds with as a result of my last post - the seeds are all in the post and I´m looking forward to sowing mine :) My latest request is - does anybody have Ferocactus seeds available? I know its very predictable, but I am a bit of a Fero fanatic! I am particular...

Re: Mystery Ferocactus?
They are relatively carefree from seed and do well outside here in the Phoenix area, showing somewhat more frost hardiness than most of their habitat locales would warrant. Mesa Garden has seed under rectispinus. I am not entirely convinced these are a variety or subspecies of emoryi, properly. I t...

Re: Mystery Ferocactus?
Many thanks, Joel. it is indeed a wonderful plant. With all the thousands of mass produced Ferocactus seedlings on the market, I´m surprised not to have seen more of this one.Joel143 wrote:I second that. I have four large ones. They are amazing with those spines.

Mystery Ferocactus?
I wonder if anybody can id. this plant for me? I´m guessing it´s a Ferocactus but I´m not sure. It has amazing long spines up to 10 cm in length that are more or less straight with a slightly curved tip, and last year produced a single Ferocactus type flower (yellow). I´ve had it for two years, have...

That´s great - thanks so much for solving the mystery for mePilif wrote:Rhipsalidopsis rosea is considered synonymous with Hatiora rosea
Edit: The genus Rhipsalidopsis was created by Britton and Rose just for this species; apparantly they didn't really know what to make of it

Rhipsalidopsis rosea..? What is your REAL name?
About 34 years ago my sister bought a plant of what was labelled "Rhipsalidopsis rosea" at the local village shop in NW England. 34 years later, in southern Spain, I have the only surviving one of many cuttings taken from this plant, most of which died from neglect despite enduring some am...

Re: New member would like cactus seed/exchange
Welcome, from one Peter to another! :D Not rare, but do have a lot of Melo. matanzus! They'd love to grow in southern Spain. Would swap for some Lopho's. -- just call them unknown sp. Peter Hi Peter! Some M. matanzus would be great as I don´t have any yet, and I can send you some Lophos. How...

New member would like cactus seed/exchange
Hello All, I´ve just joined today and am very interested in obtaining/exchanging some interesting cactus seeds, the kind of things that don´t normally turn up in commercial seed mixes. I´m in southern Spain (excellent cactus growing country) and have a modest but slowly increasing collection. I´m pa...
